Taylor not surprised by captaincy call

On a day when the West Indies Cricket Board (WICB) selectors replaced their captain Denesh Ramdin with the young Jason Holder, the Clive Lloyd-led selection panel also made change in Woman team captaincy as well.

The long-serving Merissa Aguilleira (Trinidad and Tobago) is replaced by Jamaica’s Stafanie Taylor.

The 25-year old all rounder and new captain Taylor is over the moon now.

Speaking exclusively over telephone from Jamaica, she says, “I’m feeling honored to be the captain”.

“The good news was conveyed to me by the WICB president. Obviously my family members were elated and congratulated me on this appointment”, she added.

The appointment has not come as a surprise to Taylor. “I knew at some stage this (captaincy) was to come”.

The captain has a say in the selection committee meeting. “I would want the long-serving Merissa Aguilleira in the team. I would expect her views just like any other player on and off the field”, she added.

Taylor’s immediate task would be to play the home series against Pakistan starting next month.

Having played over 80 ODIs’ and 62 Twenty20 matches, Taylor has scored over 3000 and 1800 runs in both formats of the game. She has also captured over 100 and over 50 wickets in both formats. (First Published In The Pakistan Observer).
