Latchaya, Bramble engineer Albion win over Upper Corentyne

Half centuries from David Latchaya and Anthony Bramble and a six-wicket haul by Veerasammy Permaul engineered a crushing 140-run win for Albion Cricket Club over Upper Corentyne in the Bobby Deonarine/Tom Gruntzel/Tenelec Inc. round robin limited overs first division competition on Saturday.

Latchaya struck an unbeaten 92 with six fours, finding support from the Guyana Jaguars wicket-keeper/batsman Bramble who scored 82 with three fours while out of favor West Indies left-arm spinner Veerasammy Permaul capped the match with figures of 6-14.

Played at the Port Mourant and not at the Albion Community Centre ground, Albion won the toss and racked up 291 for 4 from their 50 overs.

They had a steady start of 40 from openers national under-19 all-rounder Balchand Baldeo who was stumped for 47 and Guyana Jaguars newbie Kandasammy Surujnarine (25). National U17 opener Adrian Sukhwah (04) fell cheaply.

Prolific former Berbice U19 batsman Latchaya joined forces with Bramble and put on a good partnership before Permaul thumped an unbeaten 31.

In reply, UCCA were knocked over for 151 compliments of Permaul’s wizardry leaving batsmen Totaram Persaud (27*) and Balram Samaroo (25) as the premier scorers.

The win means that Albion is through to the last six teams of the competition joining Rose Hall Town Gizmos and Gadgets in their zone. The two teams will clash shortly to determine the zone winner.
