The three-peat is official

Guyana has retained the coveted country award of the Seaboard Marine Caribbean Motor Racing Championships (CMRC) for the third consecutive year by eight points.

Thanks to skillfully putting pedal to the metal, Team Guyana’s daredevils amassed 934 points during the course of the four legs (Jamaica, Trinidad, Barbados and Guyana) which allowed the prized piece of silverware to remain in the Land of Many Waters.

This was confirmed last night during the CMRC presentation ceremony and dinner at Parc Rayne, Rahaman’s Park.

In a close race for the country championship, Trinidad and Tobago placed second overall on 926  points after Team Guyana overhauled their 114-point lead on Sunday at the South Dakota Circuit. Barbados third with 660 points and Jamaica (369) fourth.

Group 4 champion Kristian Jeffrey (225 points) in his sophomore year played a key role in Guyana’s fortunes.

So did Elliott Vieira (winner of CMRC Super Stock-161 points) and Shairaz Roshandin (84 points) who piloted his machine to a third place overall finish in the Group 2 CMRC.

Trinidad and Tobago representatives Mark Gill -189 points (CMRC Group 2) and Paul Vieira-169 points (CMRC Group 3) took home the overall spoils for their respective categories.

The CMRC race day trophies went to

Group 2- Rameez Mohamed, Group 3-Ravi Singh, Group 4-Jeffrey and Super Stock-Vieira.

President of the GMR&SC, Johnny Carpenter labeled the fourth and final leg “one of the better events in the last few years” confirming that the fixture attracted in excess of 17,000 fans.

Carpenter also thanked the sponsors, competitors, fans, the government of Guyana and his hard working team for making the grand occasion a success.

Much to the applause of the semi formally dressed crowd at the venue, Seaboard Marine’s Vice President, Stephen Bell pledged his continued support for the fastest growing sport in the Caribbean.
