Coalition style

During the course of the election season, I played stylist to Lisa’s image for her rally appearances. It was possibly one of the most exciting and interesting things I have done in a really long time. Today I have decided to share with you some of her looks at the various rallies and the reason behind them.

 Lisa Punch

Lisa is a singer, actress and songwriter who is deeply devoted to the arts. Lisa’s increased music popularity propelled in June 2014 when she became one of the 30 individuals shortlisted for ABC’s singing show Rising Star out of some 40,000 candidates. The singer, celebrity /public figure threw her complete support behind the APNU+AFC’s political campaign in the recently contested general and regional elections.

In my opinion she is seen as a role model for youths and also as a prime youth figure. With this in mind, I decided that she should project an image of vibrancy, sass and youth-stylish political integrity.

I strove for a star image as opposed to campaign mascot even while projecting her support for the political campaign. It was extremely necessary that her style came across as independent and sincere while she dressed in support of APNU+AFC. My first don’ts with Lisa, was to not go crazy with the colours. I stayed away from the party slogan tees. Lisa was actually dressed in mostly locally made outfits.

Nails – Lisa rocked a mix of yellow and green on her fingers and all green on her toes. Later towards the end of the campaign we changed her nail design to the coalition French mani-style as I would call it. She removed the solid colours and only painted the tips. This was to evoke a youthful trend and visually display her support as an in thing and one with a difference. No one wants to be out of style right?

Accessories – Lisa wore an APNU+AFC band on each hand. I refused to let her have a bangle party on her wrists. I wanted people to spot her support clearly without any distractions and you know what they say: less is more.

Hair and Makeup – Lisa rocked natural light make-up looks by Make-up-artist Renee Chester and a constant curled updo by Samantha Gonsalves. I wanted people to see her as naturally as possible and I wanted to maintain a uniformed look throughout her rally appearances. She needed to be easily recognizable and at times I believe when you change your hairstyle and so forth you can come off a slightly unsure. Lisa’s look had to be maintained and her image had to constant so people could instantly associate her image with the campaign.

They were several outfits that I completely loved during Lisa’s campaign rally trail. My favourite was her final rally dress. Lisa wore a fifties- style dress halter

dress. The fabric had a print design of yellow and green interlocking to form a swirl-like effect.

The coalition based its campaign on several issues and one in particular was togetherness for a unified Guyana. It was necessary that at the final rally, Lisa evoked a similar look through the way she wore the colours.

It had to be worn seamlessly and not in a colour block format. This dress was a thing to see! I thought it was extremely important as the final rally had various high points inclusive of the momentous occasion of Uele Burnham and Joey Jagan holding hands. It was necessary that Lisa’s look at the largest rally evoke a visual message of unity by tightly bringing together the two party colours as she sang for the crowd. I will be posting all of Lisa’s looks on my blog.
