According to a press release, earlier, in observance of Caribbean Heritage Month, Sonia collaborated with other Caribbean designers to wow New York with ‘Bridging the Gap – Connecting Caribbean Style’, where her collections from First Resort and Mariska’s Fashions offered black and gold gowns, white gowns, bridal attire and florals. Her signature latticework and lattice turns lace were in evidence.

Meanwhile, the lines being offered at Design Faze Boutique include her versatile pieces made of tie-dye fabrics, native seeds, beads, woods and bamboo collage art. The opening saw models of various body types—from petite to plus size—demonstrating that Sonia Noel’s designs cater for all women.

“Every woman should look beautiful, irrespective of her body type,” the release quoted Sonia as saying to the audience at the launch of her line at Design Faze. She has a unique understanding of the limited options available for woman who wear large sizes and is committed to catering to all women, regardless of their shapes and sizes.

The release also quoted Tijuana as saying, “This is such an amazing business opportunity to have a designer of Sonia Noel’s calibre in my boutique… I am positive this is a start of great things to come.”

Meantime, while in New York, Sonia was the recipient of the Golden Arrowhead Award of Achievement and Distinction from the Guyana Tri-State Alliance Inc. This was in recognition of her “outstanding achievements and community service,” the release said and the award was handed out at the alliance’s observance of Guyana’s 49h Anniversary of Independence on June 26 also held at the Brooklyn Borough Hall.

According to the release, Patricia Lanford Jordan, President of the Guyana Tri-State Alliance lauded Sonia as “a great ambassador for Guyana and we’re so proud of her.”

Next for Sonia is a fashion extravaganza that will take place July 16 – 18 on the wings of the Panam Games in Toronto. ‘Cuttin’ Style Caribbean’ is scheduled for HTO Park Waterfront with ‘Fashion By The Water,’ and will culminate with the Caribbean Gala Event at Westin Harbour Castle in Toronto on July 18. “At this unprecedented international event, Caribbean Fashion will once again take front and centre stage at one of the biggest sporting and cultural platforms in the world – PANAMANIA,” the release said.
