Song of Jamaica

garden (new)Dracena reflexa commonly called Song of Jamaica originated in Madagascar and Mauritius. Last week, I wrote about its close relative Song of India.

If you are looking for an attractive foliage plant with dark green leaves Song of Jamaica is the plant for you.

Song of Jamaica develops rosettes of sword-shaped leaves with strong upright stems. It can grow to approximately 7ft to 8ft tall and grows best in full sun.

Plant Song of Jamaica in well-drained potting soil and fertilize with Miracle Gro All Purpose Plant Food every 2 weeks.

Song of Jamaica can also be grown as an indoor potted plant. Remember to place the plant in an area where it will receive bright light and mist the leaves daily. You can also use Miracle Gro Leaf Shine on this attractive foliage plant; leaves will look bright and glossy.

Song of Jamaica is a hardy plant and stands up well to our weather. Rosettes can be used in tropical fresh floral centrepieces.

Until next week, Happy Gardening.
