(Gleaner) – A teacher who succumbed to his injuries after being shot in Bushy Park, Clarendon, on Saturday night, reportedly named his alleged killer—a policeman—before his death.
In a statement yesterday, the Independent Commis-sion of Investigations (INDECOM) said it had arrested a policeman on suspicion of shooting with intent.
The incident occurred approximately 10.50 am on Saturday.
It was reported to INDECOM that Steven Dyer, a teacher at York Town Primary School, was shot and injured by the policeman after an altercation.
While it was not clear what led to the shooting, witnesses told The Gleaner that the policeman, who has not been identified, trailed Dyer from Guinep Tree in May Pen to a housing scheme.
The policeman reportedly bumped into the teacher’s car and, when the latter stopped and got out of his vehicle, opened fire. The lawman then fled the scene.
Dyer was transported to May Pen Hospital where he was admitted in serious condition and later transferred to Kingston Public Hospital.
It was reported that he was paralysed. However, he later succumbed to his injuries shortly after 10 am on Sunday.
INDECOM investigators took a statement from the victim, before he was transported to hospital, as well as several witnesses to the incident. The police officer was subsequently arrested and taken into custody at approximately 6.30 pm.
