Man charged with killing Shannon Banfield

(Trinidad Express) The lawyer for accused Dale Seecharan who is charged with murdering Shannon Banfield, has asked that the State hand over Seecharan’s fingerprints and video footage connected to the case.

Attorney Larry Williams made the submission before Chief Magistrate Marcia Ayers Caesar yesterday afternoon, during Seecharan’s appearance in the Port of Spain Magistrates’ Court.

On December 5, Banfield, 20, a Republic Bank customer service representative, went missing in Port of Spain after leaving work.

On December 9, her body was found in a storeroom of IAM and Company at Charlotte Street, Port of Spain.

Seecharan, 38, worked at IAM and Company.

Shortly after noon yesterday, Seecharan was brought before the court. According to the charge, Seecharan is charged with murdering Banfield sometime between December 4 and December 9 at IAM and Company in Port of Spain.

Attorney Williams made an application for the disclose of the State’s evidence, including the fingerprints taken of Seecharan, and the three video clips each about 10 second in duration. Williams also asked for the full video footage in the possession of the police.

Magistrate Ayers-Caesar made the order that the evidence be disclosed to the defence.

Seecharan remained silent throughout his appearance in court. The courtroom was filled with police officers. No relatives of victim or accused were seen.

Seecharan has been remanded in prison custody. He will reappear in court on January 17.
