The wall of a store was smashed while two vehicles were badly damaged in a collision yesterday morning at the corner of North Road and Wellington Street.

A Route 44 (Georgetown-Mahaica) minibus and a Toyota 212 were the two vehicles that collided but no one was seriously hurt. One bus passenger suffered minor injuries. This was confirmed by Traffic Chief Dion Moore, who told Stabroek News that investigations are ongoing.

Stabroek News was told that around 9.30 am, the speeding minibus, bearing licence plate BVV 292, was proceeding west on North Road while the car, PSS 4187, was heading south onto Wellington Street when they collided at the intersection.

It was understood that after the driver of the minibus spotted the car, he tried to swerve but failed.

Because of the impact, the bus toppled and ended up in a trench, while the car crashed into the concrete wall of a store located just off the road.

The windscreens of both vehicles were completely shattered along with almost all of the windows. The front of the bus was dented while that of the car was completely damaged.

The driver of the car, Natalie Hutson, when approached by this newspaper was counting her lucky stars at escaping the accident unharmed.

The bloodied driver of the minibus was also seen with scratches and bruises about his body.

When this newspaper arrived at the scene, a number of persons, including employees from the surrounding businesses, gathered to get a glimpse of what had happened. At the same time, a number of traffic ranks and other police officers were present conducting investigations and directing traffic which was moving at a slow pace as a result of the accident.

Traffic officers with the help of few persons turned the toppled bus out of the drain, after which both the drivers were taken to the Brickdam Police Station.
