Thirty-one new US Peace Corps volunteers and will begin their stints at various schools and health centres on April 11.
According to a press release from the US Embassy, the volunteers who arrived here on February 2, are currently living with local host families, immersing themselves in the Guyanese environment while undergoing training, which will last ten weeks. The volunteers usually serve for a period of two years.
This 28th batch of volunteers brings the number to have served in Guyana since 1966 to over 700, the release stated.
The late US President John F Kennedy created the Peace Corps in March 1961 to provide human resource and technical assistance to developing countries on request.
