A release yesterday from MARAD said that the training was fully sponsored by the Government of Japan through the Japan International Co-operation Agency’s (JICA) International Co-operation Programme in collaboration with the International Hydrographic Organisation and the International Maritime Organisation. The release said that the primary function of the training was to empower the participants to conduct hydrographic surveys to international standards and specifications. The release said that Fraser and others were exposed to extensive field and classroom studies, including basic Japanese language.

Fraser joined the Department in 2014 and is a graduate of the land surveying programme of the Government Technical Institute. He is now only the second person in this country to be accredited as a Category B Hydrographic Surveyor, the release said.
