GWI meets with experts on problematic Diamond well

The Guyana Water Inc (GWI) says that Chief Executive, GWI, Dr. Richard Van West-Charles met with local contractors and experts on well maintenance yesterday regarding the current technical difficulties being experienced at the Diamond Well Station.

A GWI release today said that present were representatives from S. Jagmohan Hardware Supplies and Construction Services, Nabi Construction Inc, Courtney Benn Contracting Services Ltd, R.N. Williams Construction Inc, and Webb Construction along with experts from GWI.

The release said that the purpose of the meeting was to determine a course of action regarding a resolution to the current challenges at the Diamond Well Station.

“The Chief Executive indicated that it was pivotal to utilize the ‘best minds’ in the field of well drilling and maintenance in order to successfully restore the well station in the swiftest manner possible”, the release said.

The release added that Van West-Charles signalled that GWI is in the process of repairing the ruptured well casing. This work entails removing accumulated clay from the well and placing an internal sleeve in an attempt to seal the rupture. Following this, the well will be cleaned and disinfected.

The Chief Executive charged the experts with forging a long-term solution for the current challenges at the well station and urged that every possible solution be explored.

During this period, water is being delivered via tankers to the Diamond Housing Scheme and Kaneville according to the following schedule:

  • Diamond Housing Scheme: 9:00hours – 20:00hours from 21st Avenue to 1st Avenue
  • Kaneville from 17:00hours – 20:00hours – ‘Middle Road’ Kaneville
