Mother of five killed after struck down on East Coast

A pedestrian was killed on Friday afternoon after she was struck down while attempting to cross the Golden Grove Public Road, East Coast Demerara (ECD).

She has been identified as 67-year-old Kosilla Mohamed, a mother of five of Clonbrook, ECD.

Mohamed sustained mainly head injuries and was taken to the Georgetown Public Hospital around 1 pm on Friday where she succumbed.

One eyewitness told Stabroek News that he was heading to the market, which is located close to where the accident occurred when he heard a loud impact. The man said when he looked back, Mohamed was already hit down. She pitched some distance away before falling to the roadway.

He expressed concern about the speed with which drivers traverse the road on a daily basis while noting that the driver of the truck that allegedly hit Mohamed was speeding at the time.

Reports revealed that Mohamed had left her home to visit a MoneyGram outlet in Golden Grove and was attempting to cross the road to get into a minibus.

The driver is currently in police custody assisting with investigations.
