Traffic Chief hospitalised after crash

Traffic Chief, Superintendent Dion Moore is currently admitted as a patient in a city hospital after he was involved in an accident early yesterday morning.

Stabroek News understands that Moore sustained a fractured thigh and other injuries about his body and was taken to the Georgetown Public Hospital (GPH) in an unconscious state. He was admitted to the hospital’s High Deficiency Unit (HDU) before being taken to the operating theatre late yesterday afternoon.

The Guyana Police Force in a press release said Moore was travelling in a private motor car along the Public Road at Providence, East Bank Demerara (EBD), when the driver lost control of the vehicle and collided with a utility pole. As a result, he sustained injuries and is hospitalised, the release said.

The driver of the car was taken into police custody as investigations continues. Stabroek News understands that a breathalyzer test was conducted on him which result negative.

This accident came exactly one month after former assistant commissioner of Police Balram Persaud was involved in a vehicular accident at Schoonord, West Bank Demerara (WBD). Persaud reportedly lost control of his car and slammed into a utility pole after a tyre blew out. He succumbed to his injuries on February 23.

Moore took up the post of Traffic Chief during September last year.
