Dead is Nafasie Edghill, 39, of Castello Housing Scheme, Georgetown. Edghill sustained a single gunshot wound to his abdomen and died at a city private hospital while receiving medical attention.

The incident occurred around 15:00 hrs on Friday in front the Guyana School of Agriculture at Mon Repos, East Coast Demerara.

The friend, who is a licensed firearm holder and two other persons who were in proximity at the time of the incident were taken into police custody shortly afterwards. Up to late yesterday afternoon, they were assisting the police with investigations.

According to a police press release, Edghill was at Mon Repos with a friend and they were involved in a playful scuffle, during which the firearm was in his friend’s hand and a round was accidentally discharged.
