A North East La Penitence resident was on Friday placed on bail after it was alleged that he stole a bike that he said he owned.
It is alleged that on March 28 at Georgetown, Troy Lord, 35, stole a motorcycle valued at $185,000, property of Ron Reynolds.
Lord pleaded not guilty to the charge after it was read to him by Chief Magistrate Ann McLennan.
Police Prosecutor Neville Jeffers had no objection to bail, since the cycle was recovered. He said that during a police patrol the officers spotted Lord pushing the bike.
According to the defendant, he did not steal the bike, he bought it from a man for $60,000. He said he only had $20,000 left to pay off, then he would have received the documents for the vehicle from the man.
Magistrate McLennan reprimanded Lord for not receiving the documents for the vehicle before he collected the bike.
She cautioned him that it was a vehicle he was buying and not a “sweetie,” and in every purchase there needs to be a document which can verify proof of sale and or registration for the vehicle handed over to him.
The defendant told the court that he now understands and that he was sorry.
Bail in the sum of $40,000 was granted to Lord. He was ordered to return to court on May 16.
