Port Mourant man chopped during robbery

A man on Monday night suffered a chop to the head and was beaten during a robbery in Free Yard, Port Mourant, Corentyne, Berbice.

Rawle De Matos, 45, was returning home around 21:00 hrs., and upon entering his yard, two men armed with a hand gun and a cutlass approached him brandishing the cutlass. According to his brother Stuart Thompson, the men threatened De Matos and demanded cash.

Thomson said that his brother told him that the men wanted to tie him up with duct tape after which he put up a fight and during a scuffle with the perpetrators he suffered a chop to his head.

The bandits got away with $6000, and a cellphone. De Matos was rushed to the New Amsterdam Public Hospital, where he currently is in a stable condition. De Matos sustained injuries to his head and about his body.

Investigations into the robbery are still ongoing.
