An elderly man died on Monday evening, days after he suffered several blows to his head that were allegedly inflicted by his son after he refused to give him money.

Dead is Rickford Bourne, 70, of Lot 732 ‘B’ Field, Sophia, while his son, who is described as a drug addict, has been arrested.

The senior Bourne succumbed to his injuries at the Georgetown Public Hospital (GPH) around 7.30pm on Monday.

The attack occurred around 10.30am last Thursday.

The suspect has provided investigators with a detailed account of what transpired, this newspaper was told.  The police, in a press release, said that Rickford was allegedly struck to his head by the suspect during an argument.

According to reports reaching Stabroek News, the suspect went to his neighbour’s residence last Thursday and he informed that he had just hit Rickford to his head because he refused to give him the television remote and a “raise.”

As a result of this, the neighbour reportedly informed Rickford’s daughter, who, upon checking on him, discovered that he had sustained three wounds to his head.
