Bandits rob Corentyne shop owner

-cops seek two suspects

Police are currently searching for two suspects after bandits attacked and robbed a Corentyne shop owner and her son at their home on Monday evening.

Stabroek News was told that the bandits carted off $775,000 in cash, a tablet, a Samsung galaxy cellphone, and a quantity of phone cards and jewellery belonging to Savitri Jagnandan, of #72 Village, Corentyne.

This newspaper was told that Jagnandan was in her hammock with her son around 6.35 pm, when two masked bandits barged into the premises and demanded cash and jewellery.

It was reported that the bandits were armed with a long gun and a cutlass. It was also reported that they discharged a round during their escape.

According to a police source, the woman’s son was beaten and locked in a storeroom, while Jagnandan was taken upstairs, where the bandits continued to demand money and jewellery.

Meanwhile, Commander of ‘B’ Division Ian Amsterdam told Stabroek News that although no one had been arrested, two suspects are on the police’s radar. Amsterdam said that some time ago persons were robbed at the #63 Village beach and the same modus operandi was used. According to the Commander, after searches and patrols were stepped up at the beach, the area went quiet for a while. However, he stressed, that the robbery is still being investigated at this time.
