Romell Jagroop wins $390m contract for conservancy dam

Romell Jagroop General Construction Services has gotten the green light for a $390m contract for the construction of the north eastern dam of the East Demerara Water Conservancy (EDWC).

This was disclosed yesterday by the Ministry of the Presidency which said that Cabinet had given its no-objection.

The dam of the EDWC has been in poor shape for a number of years and financing had been sought from various sources for works. The overtopping of the dam was believed to be a key factor in the Great Flood of 2005.
