Bulletin issued for suspect in murder of mechanic

The police yesterday issued a  bulletin for Anthony Jhagroo, who is wanted for questioning in relation to two offences: escaping from lawful custody and the murder of mechanic, Yugeshwar Shiwcharan.

The Guyana Police Force is seeking the assistance of the public in locating Jhagroo, 20, whose last known address is Lot 35 Goed Intent, West Bank Demerara.

Anyone with information that may lead to the arrest of Jhagroo is asked to contact the police on telephone numbers 225-6411, 225-2227, 225-8196, 268-2343, 268-2298, 268-2222, 911 or the nearest police station; all information will be treated confidentially.

Jhagroo escaped from the La Grange Police station lock ups on July 15, less than one day after he had surrendered to the police. He escaped through a hole in the southern side of the cell wall.

This newspaper was previously informed that two police officers who were on duty at the time of the incident were placed under close arrest following the escape, but they have since been released as the hunt for Jhagroo continues.

Shiwcharan, also known as ‘Shah Rukh Khan,’ 31, of Lot 485 Belle West, was beaten with a piece of wood, minutes before midnight on July 6. He was admitted in a critical condition to the West Demerara Regional Hospital where he succumbed on July 10.

A post-mortem examination revealed that he died as a result of blunt trauma to the head.
