Bibi Safoora Salim, the woman who allegedly made death threats to President David Granger on Facebook, was yesterday freed of the charges.
Chief Magistrate Ann McLennan yesterday dismissed the two charges against Salim, who was accused of attempting to excite hostility or ill-will on March 1 and March 31.
Salim, who her attorney Glenn Hanoman had described to the court as “technologically-challenged,” allegedly made threatening remarks towards the president via Facebook and used derogatory remarks about him in messages sent via WhatsApp to her son, Asif Salim.
During the preliminary report hearing for the matter, the defence had said in its submissions that the particulars of the case did not create an offence.
The Chief Magistrate yesterday ruled in favour of the defence and Salim breathed a sigh of relief when she was escorted out of the court by one of her lawyers.
Salim had been released on $200,000 bail after she was arraigned in April of this year.
