Teen charged over Laing Avenue taxi driver’s murder

A second person was yesterday charged with murdering taxi driver Orin David, who was gunned down on August 1.

Reagus Lamazon, 19, was read the murder charge by Magistrate Judy Latchman.

Lamazon, of 51 D’Urban Street, was not required to plead to the charge. Attorney Paul Fung-A-Fat, who appeared on behalf of the defendant, requested that the matter be heard in the High Court by way of paper committal.

But the magistrate such a decision would have to be made in concord with the prosecution.

The defendant was subsequently remanded.

Lamazon, a labourer, will have his next court hearing on September 8, before Chief Magistrate Ann McLennan.

Samuel McIntyre, believed to be the driver of the getaway car used in the attack on David, was previously charged with committing the murder.

David, of Lot 89 Laing Avenue, was reportedly drinking alcohol with some friends and relatives near to his house when he was approached by two persons whom he knew. The three men engaged in a conversation away from the drinking and were later seen arguing over what was reported to have been money owed to David.

An eyewitness said the two men left and returned with others, while pointing out that when the two men returned, two vehicles and two motorcycles with men came with them.

The eyewitness observed one of the men trying to hide a big gun. It was when David began walking back to the men that the man with the gun pulled it out and fired three shots, hitting David.
