Tagore Memorial boy killed in accident

An 11-year-old first form student of the Tagore Memorial Secondary School died after a driver lost control of his car and struck him yesterday  around 5 pm.

The impact pitched the child approximately three house lots away. Simon Kendall of Number 46 Village, Corentyne and his older brother were walking towards their garden which is located a few houses from their home to water plants, when the allegedly speeding car struck him at the turn in the village.

According to an eyewitness, the driver may have lost control of the car. “After he hit the child down he continue to drive and go home…He a live right in this nearby area here”, the man noted.

“So me been a come from over a road deh with me bicycle and me see the man knock down the pickney and me deh tell am that you knock down them people and you still a continue a drive a go way”, the man said.

The eyewitness pointed out that the driver’s windows were up.

“He car glass been wind up but he watch me, he see me because nobody more na been deh from the road, the road been clear”.

The man said he saw the driver go home and then a few seconds later the driver’s father, his brother and cousin returned with the car and parked it in a different location and direction on the road.

Simon was rushed to the Skeldon Public Hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival. His older brother was not injured since he was a few steps in front of Simon.

According to a police source, investigators are searching for the driver of the car PVV 7617.  The source divulged that the driver’s brother is currently in police custody assisting with the investigation.
