Nismes man killed after hit by car at Houston

A man is now dead after he was struck down by a motorcar on Friday evening while attempting to cross the Houston Public Road, East Bank Demerara.

He has been identified as Ryan Raghubeer called “Pipey”, 42 of Nismes, West Bank Demerara.

According to reports reaching Stabroek News, the accident occurred around 11 pm shortly Raghubeer left a shop where he was imbibing alcohol with some friends. He was attempting to cross the road when he was struck down by motor car, HC 8523.

Raghubeer was picked up in an unconscious state and taken to the Georgetown Public Hospital where he subsequently died.

The driver of the car was taken into custody and is assisting the police with investigations.

When this newspaper arrived on the scene on Friday evening, the driver related that Raghubeer and his friends were running across the road when his car collided with Raghubeer. According to the driver, he was not speeding. “Was three of them walking; two were in front and one pulled this one (Raghubeer) and he end up in front of my car,” the driver said.

However, a friend of the dead man said they were indeed crossing the road at the time of the accident. He said Raghubeer was behind him when he heard a loud impact. When he looked a distance away he saw Raghubeer lying on the roadway.
