Is the Interactive Radio Instruction Programme dead?

Dear Editor,

The Ministry of Education had promoted the Interactive Radio Instruction Programme in all primary schools in Guyana as the mathematics curricula delivery vehicle for Grades 1 to 3.

I have never seen any programmes on the Guyana Learning Channel implying that the focus is on the Interactive Radio Instruction Programme. Has the Cyril Potter College of Education incorporated the implementation of this programme into the training of teachers? Have there been revisions of the Teachers’ Guides?  Is the programme subject to formal and systematic evaluation for adjustments? Has the government ensured that schools receive the exercise books and radios to be used according to the consultant’s specifications? Are teachers being trained to implement the programme? Or is the Interactive Radio Instruction Programme dead?

Yours faithfully,

Krishna Nand Prasad
