Dear Editor,
The top level of the Hope Canal concrete bridge should have been designed to be in line with the natural adjacent ground level to enable the base and sub-base material of the roadway and bridge to be at the same level. This would have minimised the settlement between the bridge and adjacent roadway. As it is now it is very dangerous, and vehicles crossing the bridge should reduce their speed to around 5 to 10 mph in order to prevent accidents from occurring.
I believe I wrote about this problem some time ago but it was ignored.
