Public could supply photos to the police of rogue officers

Dear Editor,

After reading yet again about the illegality of random stop and searches by police officers away from police outposts, I think that it is time that the force worked more closely with the public to bring the rogue cops to the attention of the top brass of the force. This is especially so, since it seems as though the top brass is unable to catch those rogue cops in action.

After seeing how the police were able to charge errant minibuses through photographs that were published in the Kaieteur News a few weeks ago, isn’t it time that the police encouraged other road users to do likewise? That way the Commissioner cannot say he doesn’t have evidence on which to charge the ranks. With so many cameras within the public domain these days, it would be very easy to photograph the rogue cops in action.

Even further, is it possible for road users to photograph other users who break the traffic laws? This could be especially useful at stoplights where the police are generally unable to catch those users who jump the light, or ‘undertake’, or block up moving lanes.

Hopefully the police can shed some light on this photographic possibility.

Yours faithfully,
