Time to put a swift end to the bondgate scandal

Dear Editor,

I write to endorse the call of GHK Lall to President David Granger to put an end to this growing bondgate scandal.

Bobby Ramroop may have been a friend of President Jagdeo, and was later favoured with lucrative government contracts. This is cronyism gone amok. This is the kind of thing that took place in Marcos’s Phillippines and Suharto’s Indonesia. For someone in the Granger administration to select another friend (Larry Singh) and seek to duplicate the Ramroop/Jagdeo template is at once brazen and an assault on the sensibilities of all decent men and women of Guyana.

What was the source of the money which paid for the building now being converted to serve as a storage bond? Was it from the treasury or Mr Singh’s bank account? What is the basis of awarding this contract to this chosen friend? That such wrongdoing would take over the Granger administration and be allowed to slide is unthinkable. It is time to put a swift end to this scandal that threatens to consume the new government in Guyana.

Yours faithfully,

Mike Persaud
