NDCs of Grove, Diamond, Herstelling are just talk-shops

Dear Editor,

The Golden Grove/Diamond-Herstelling/Little Diamond NDCs should resign immediately and make way for an interim management committee which can manage the affairs of these important villages.

It has been four months now since we saw a return to local democracy, however what we are witnessing is the demise of our community by people who sit every month at statutory meetings to have talk shops and waste time and taxpayers’ money since they do not have any solid action plan that will see cleaner, greener and happier communities.

A walk around will give these people a hands-on idea as to what is needed to address the many outstanding issues residents have, including the cleaning of the canals, the overgrown vegetation, the infestation of mosquitos and the deplorable roads and walkways, among others.

The time has come when all residents must stand up and lift their voices and make known that we expect the entire council to forget their political affiliations and work to bring about a better community for all.

As a former independent candidate I will continue to fight on for all villagers who are aggrieved and continue to receive substandard service from our elected representatives.

I will fight until there is no more breath and heartbeat left in me, because we deserve better communities.

A call is made to the Minister of Communities, Mr Ronald Bulkan, to take note of the many concerns residents have vented in recent times, and request him to ensure that the subventions released by government are not abused but are spent transparently and equitably for the further development of all communities across Guyana.

Finally the NDC councillors and chairmen should take note that the residents of Diamond, Grove and Herstelling are not sleeping and are alert and ready to fight for a better community.

Yours faithfully,

Andre Fortune
