Minor role for Chanderpaul as Arabians win

SHARJAH, United Arab Emirates, CMC – Veteran left-hander Shiv Chanderpaul had little impact as his Gemini Arabians defeated Virgo Super Kings by 22 runs in the Masters Champions League on Saturday.

Choosing to bat, Arabians racked up 144 for five from their 20 overs, with Chanderpaul getting 12 from 11 deliveries in his second game of the tournament.

He entered at 70 for two in the 10th over and added 31 for the third wicket with Saqib Ali who finished on 46 not out from 41 balls.

Chanderpaul eventually perished in the 14th over, lbw to left-arm spinner Murali Karthik.

Sri Lankan star Kumar Sangakkara, opening the batting, top-scored with 51 from 34 deliveries.

In reply, Super Kings could only manage 122 for six with opener Neil McKenzie striking 46.

In the other game played, Leo Lions without captain Brian Lara beat Sagittarius Strikers by five wickets in a final-over finish.

Chasing 152, Lions were carried by South African opener Johan Botha who struck 70 from 60 balls.

Former Jamaica and West Indies left-arm seamer Krishmar Santokie picked up two for 41.

Earlier, ex-Barbados and Windies fast bowler Fidel Edwards claimed two for 32 to help restrict Strikers to 151 for nine, with Adam Gilchrist top-scoring with 33.
