Police, Flamingo in easy wins

The Guyana Police Force (GPF) and Flamingo secured lopsided wins when the GFA-sanctioned Stag Beer League continued on Wednesday.

GPF made light work of Beacons FC by a 3-0 margin while Flamingo downed Northern Rangers 4-2 at the Georgetown Football Club (GFC) ground in Bourda.

As a result of the wins, GPF and Flamingo claimed three points. The losers remain pointless.

In the opening matchup, the lawmen seized the early control in the 27th minute as Alito Wallace found the back of the net.

With the score line remaining unchanged going into the half time interval, the officers increased their advantage in the 60th minute through Quincy Holder.

Awarded a penalty kick following a handball infraction, Holder made no mistake from the distance as he calmly dispatched his right-foot effort into the lower-left corner.

The outcome was then sealed 16 minutes later as Wallace completed his brace with a sublime left-foot shot.

Receiving the ball at the top of the box, Wallace, after racing past two markers into the left of the area, unleashed a powerful strike into the top right corner.

Meanwhile, in the feature contest, Northern Rangers took the lead in the 38th minute as Nigel Denny found the back of the net.

Latching onto a pass following a one-two combination, the veteran forward upon entering the centre of the box, finished over the onrushing keeper into the left side.

However, Flamingo immediately levelled the fixture one minute later as Leon Yaw added his name to the scorer’s sheet.

Racing into the centre of the box following a lobbed pass, Yaw pounced on a loose ball which fell between the two centre halves before volleying his effort into the right corner.

Yaw then gave Flamingo the lead in the 50th minute, stealing the ball off the boot of the hesitant keeper following a back pass, before finishing into the centre of the net from the right side.

It became 3-1 in the 63rd minute as Shem Porter scored, directing his header into the left corner after collecting a right-sided cross within the six-yard area.

Flamingo solidified their position once more as Orlando Ricketts netted four minutes onward, finishing past the advancing keeper during a one-on-one situation, after collecting a right-sided through pass.

The Kitty-based unit eventually pulled one back in the 82nd minute as Denny netted his second, compliments of a penalty kick conversion into the top left corner.

The championship will continue on Tuesday, February 16th at the same locale.

In the opening fixture at 18:00hrs, Santos will oppose Flamingo while the feature contest at 20:30hrs will pit Western Tigers against Beacons FC.
