Singh slams third ton of season

— as Guyana rally to 237 all out

Vishaul Singh’s third century of the 2015/16 Professional Cricket League (PCL) 4-Day tournament enabled the Guyana Jaguars to score 237 all out against the T&T Red Force who were 136-3 in their first innings when bad light stopped play on day two at the Guyana National Stadium, Providence.

Yannick Cariah was unbeaten on 58 from 125 deliveries and skipper Jason Mohammed not out 18 when the light was taken at 17:14hrs.

Fast-bowlers Keon Joseph (1-25), left-arm medium-pacer Raymon Reifer (1-21) and left-arm spinner Veerasammy Permaul (1-41), helped pull things back for the Jaguars.

Vishaul `Cheesy’ Singh yesterday struck an unbeaten century, his second against Trinidad and his third this season.

After resuming on 204-7, Singh went onto bat for over 300 minutes under hazy conditions to reach his fourth first class ton, his third this season and his second against the Red Force. His workmanlike, unbeaten 104 from 295 balls featured 14 fours and was another solid batting exhibition shown by the little left-hander over the past two seasons.

Marlon Richards (3-41) Rayad Emrit (3-44), Jon-Rus Jaggesar 3-59 were the main wicket takers.

Evin Lewis (26) struck the first six for the Red Force during the chase but Kyle Hope (09) who welcomed Permaul with a four, was caught by Leon Johnson at slip on the stroke of lunch, taken at 19-1. Rain delayed the resumption and when play restarted, the left-handed Lewis opened up with three crisp fours before play was stopped yet again at 13:20hrs due to rain.

The break lasted for approximately 80 minutes and upon resumption, Joseph undid Lewis with a lively delivery who picked out Bishoo at mid-off. At tea, T&T were 62-2 from 18 overs with Guyanese Narsingh Deonarine (18) and Cariah at the crease before Reifer had his former teammate out LBW.

Earlier, Singh reached his milestone prior to the 41 minute rain break and when play resumed at 11:18hrs, Jaggesar removed Bishoo and Motie for 11 and two runs respectively. Ottley then denied Richards his fourth wicket when he dropped Singh on 104 at gully but made up for his error when he held onto Joseph’s whose edge was found by Emrit.

Day three’s action is expected to bowl off at 9:00hrs
