Seyhodan gives Demerara upper hand against B/ce

Keshram Seyhodan’s `5-for’ swung things in Demerara’s favor against Berbice on the first day in round two of the Guyana Cricket Board (GCB)/Hand-in-Hand U19 3-day tournament played at the Everest Cricket Club ground yesterday.

Seyhodan snared 5-46 to restrict Berbice for 198 in 58 overs, despite some fight shown by top scorer Joel Seetaram who cracked four fours and four sixes in his 76 not out. Heading into day two, Demerara were 38-0 after 14 overs, with openers Ronaldo Renee (11) and Raymond Perez

Berbice openers Adrian Sukwah (02) and Sasenarine Sookhoo (22) looked threatening before opposition skipper Ronaldo AliMohamed removed Sukwah followed by Sookhoo who retired hurt as Berbice lost four wickets before lunch.

When play resumed, Sherfane Rutherford (2-46) had Joshua Harrichand (10) trapped leg before wicket while Seyhodan began his show accounting for the dismissal of Brandon Prashad (1), Matthew Hardyial (23) and Randy Wade (00).

In-form spinner Ershad Ali (1-23) had the honor of removing Sookhoo for a 35-ball 45 after the batsman resumed his innings after retiring hurt earlier but came in after the wicket of Wade. He scored for a 35-ball 45, inclusive on nine boundaries.

Skipper Travis Persaud removed Vevekanand Jagit for duck, before Seetaram and Nicholas Seenarine (25) steadied the innings as tea loomed.

After tea, Seenarine fell to Rutherford. However Seetaram joined forces with Raymond Vankenic (19) to add 49 for the last wicket before the tormentor Seyhodan claimed the wicket of the latter.

The action continues today at 9:30hrs
