Street football teams battle for right to represent Guyana

With the prize of representing Guyana at the Caribbean Championship on the line, the Guinness Greatest of the Streets National championships will commence today at the National Cultural Centre tarmac with eight  fixtures.

The event which will feature eight teams from the Georgetown, West Demerara, East Coast Demerara and Linden Zones, will be contested over two days in an initial group format.

Group-A will comprise of Linden unit Wisroc Good Fellas, Georgetown outfit Channel-9-Warriors and West Demerara holder Pouderoyen Showstoppers and North Ruimveldt.

On the other hand, group-B which is dubbed the pool of the champions, will feature defending champion Sparta Boss, East Coast of Demerara titlist Beterverwagting (BV)-B, Linden winner Team 25 and West Demerara unit Stewartville Gunners.

In the opening fixture, Wisroc will oppose North Ruimveldt from 18:00hrs while Channel-9-Warriors will faceoff with Showstoppers from 18:30hrs.

The third fixture will then pit Team-25 against BV-B at 19:00hrs while the Sparta Boss will lock horns with Stewartville Gunners from 19:30hrs in the fourth fixture.

Following the conclusion of a break, the winner of game-one will play the loser of fixture-two at 20:45hrs while the winner of match-two will faceoff with the loser of match-one from 21:15hrs.

At 21:45hrs, the victor of showdown three will oppose the defeated team from game four whilst the final fixture of the night will the winner of game four against the loser of match three.

The event will then conclude on June 24 at the same venue with the semi-final, third place playoff and grand finale.
