Vreed-en-Hoop Secondary dismissed Essequibo Islands Secondary by a 6-0 score line when the Digicel Schools Football Championship continued yesterday at the Leonora Sports Facility.

Akeem Pinder top scored with two goals in the 61st and 86th minutes while Alwin Kendall, Shem Thom, Brian Chapman and Steffon Webster scored in the 21st, 32nd, 57th and 65th minutes respectively.

Meanwhile, in Georgetown at Camp Ayanganna, Government Technical Institute (GTI) crushed St. John’s 4-0. Donte Yonnick, Emmanuel Thomas, Tafari Simon and Kevin James scored in the 18th, 29th, 30th and 33rd minute respectively.

On the other hand, Sir Leon won via walkover against Charlestown in the second fixture of the zone. Also, Mahaicony Secondary edged Rosignol Secondary 4-2 on penalty kicks after normal time ended 2-2.

The event will resume today with matches at several venues. The championship which will be played in the traditional knockout format, will be staged in every region and will end on July 31st at the National Stadium in Providence.

Christianburg/Wismar Secondary has held a stranglehold on the event as they are current four-time defending champions. The other victor was Government Technical Institute who won the inaugural event.

Winner of the event is slated to receive $1,000,000 toward the funding off a school project and the Championship trophy while the second place unit will receive $700,000 and the runners-up accolade.

The third and fourth-placed unit will walk away with $400,000 and $350,000 and the corresponding trophy. Similarly, $100,000 will be awarded to each zone winner.
