Defending champ makes winning start

Defending Men’s Open Champ Nyron Joseph as well as No. #1 Men and Women seeds Alex Arjoon and Ashley Khalil made winning stars when the Guyana Squash Association (GSA) sanctioned Digicel Senior Championships continued on Thursday.

Staged at the Georgetown Club Squash Facility, Joseph made light work of Darren McDonald 11/4, 11/3, 11/1. On the other hand, Arjoon crushed Rithew Saywack 11/5, 11/1, 11/4 while Khalil defeated Rebecca Low 11/3, 11/1, 11/0.

Meanwhile, in the other results of Men’s Open Section, Kristian Jeffrey defeated Jonathan Antczak 11/0, 11/0, 11/1 while Jason Ray Khalil dismissed Anthony Islam 11/4, 11/2, 11/8 and Regan Pollard downed Medhi Ramdhani 11/3, 11/2, 11/6.

The final matches of the section witnessed Raphael De Groot defeating Daniel Islam 10/12, 11/3, 11/1, 11/2, Ben Mekdeci crushing Alex Cheeks 11/3, 11/1, 11/2 and Javid Alli overcoming Alec Melville 11/6, 11/4, 9/11, 0/11, 12/10.

In the other results of the Women’s Open, Akeila Wiltshire overcame Victoria Arjoon 12/10, 11/7, 11/6 while Taylor Fernandes dismissed Makeda Harding 11/8, 11/3, 11/2 and Larissa Wiltshire brushed aside Maya Collins 11/3, 11/2, 11/2.

In the Veteran’s Division, Javed Alli defeated David Fernandes 11/3, 11/4, 11/2 while Medhi Ramdhani edged Douglas De Groot 9/11, 11/8, 11/9, 11/8 and Garfield Wiltshire brushed aside Robin Low 12/10, 11/6, 11/4.

On Wednesday at the same venue, Javed Alli defeated Douglas De Groot 11/2, 11/7, 11/0 while Joe Mekdeci crushed Robin Low 11/1, 11/3, 11/4 and Garfield Wiltshire downed Medhi Ramdhani 11/4, 12/10 and 11/6 in the Veteran’s Section.
