Bright for IAAF U20 c/ships

Long and triple jump athlete Chantoba Bright has been named as Guyana’s representative to the 2016 International Amateur Athletic Federation World U20 track and field championships in Bydgoszcz, Poland, from July 19-24.

Bright, who won silver medals in both events (U18) at this year’s CARIFTA Games during the Easter Weekend in St Kitts, is a late replacement after Aliyah Abrams became a late scratch.

Plans are apace for Bright and her coach to secure visas to attend the event.

Bright recorded 5.94m in the long jump at the CARIFTA Games which was won by Jamaica’s Britney Anderson with a leap of 6.02m and the Lindener returned to the podium after finishing behind The Bahamas’ Charisma Taylor (12.53m) in the triple jump with a leap of 12.39m.

She will be aiming to leap much better to secure a spot on the podium in Poland as the championships promises to be one of the biggest in the history of the fixture.

With the deadline for the final entries now closed, a total of 1518 athletes (832 males and 686 females) have registered and the event looks set to be the second-biggest World U20 Championships to date, bettered only by the 2012 edition in Barcelona, where 1566 athletes participated.

Note: The IAAF World U20 Championships were previously known as the IAAF World Junior Championships before undergoing a rebranding heading into 2016.
