Sparta Boss outhustle Hustlers on penalties

Sparta Boss, North Ruimveldt, Showstoppers and Broad Street were amongst the victories when the 2nd Annual Ballers in the Summer Street Football Championship commenced on Saturday at the Pouderoyen Tarmac.

National heavyweights Sparta Boss overcame Hustler 3-2 on penalty kicks after normal time ended 3-3. Meanwhile, North Ruimveldt downed fellow Georgetown unit West Front Road by a 3-2 score line on penalty kicks following a scoreless normal time interval and Showstoppers squeaked past Stewartville Gunners 1-0 on penalty kicks after normal time 2-2.

Also, Broad Street dismissed Bagotstown 2-0.

In the other results, Jetty defeated West Side Ballers 3-2 on sudden death kicks after normal time ended 0-0 while Champion Boys bested Den Amstel by a 2-0 margin. The event will resume tomorrow at the same venue with another round of elimination matches.

In the opening fixture at 19:00hrs, Harmony Ballers will oppose defending champion Agricola while the second fixture will pit Samaroo Dam against Comfort Ballers from 19:30hrs.

The third affair of the night will witness North Ruimveldt locking horns with Broad Street from 20:00hrs while the fourth fixture will pit Champion Boys against the winner of the Samaroo Dam and Comfort Ballers fixture at 20:30hrs

In the fifth fixture at 21:00hrs, Sparta Boss will oppose the victor of the Harmony Ballers and Agricola matchup while in the final showdown at 21:30hrs, Showstoppers will faceoff with Jetty Gunners. The event will conclude on Saturday 23rd at the same venue.

Winner of the tournament will receive $200,000 and the championship trophy while the second placed unit will pocket $150,000. The third and fourth placed units will walk away with $50,000 and $20,000 respectively.

Similarly, a motor car will be given away on the night of the finals to one patron. The sponsors are OJ’s Auto Sales, Golf Motor Oil, Guyana Police Force ‘D’ Division and Banks DIH Limited.
