Pitbulls, Old Fort in vintage hockey wins

Georgetown Cricket Club (GCC) Pitbulls and Old Fort Vintage secured commanding wins when the Lucozade Indoor Hockey Championship continued on Tuesday at the National Gymnasium on Mandela Avenue.

Although Trevon Smith gave the Pitbulls the lead in the second minute, emerging talent Meshach Sergeant led the assault for the Bourda-based unit with a helmet trick on either side of half time.

Sergeant added to their lead in the third minute before doubling his personal tally and his side’s advantage with an 18th minute conversion. Shaquille Leung made it 4-0 as he found the back of the net in the 24th minute.

The lopsided contest continued one minute later as Mark Sergeant (sibling) added his name to the scorer’s sheet. However it was the diminutive Meshach Sergeant who applied the final touches to the Pitbulls offence, sealing his four-goal burst with strikes in the 36th and 39th minutes.

Meanwhile in the second fixture, Old Fort Vintage downed GCC-A by a 5-2 margin. With the score locked 2-2 heading into the second period, Old Fort secured the vital win compliments of three unanswered goals.

With Old Fort recording goals initially in the seventh and 19th minute, Jason DeSantos bagged a second half brace compliments of conversions in the 32nd and 33rd minute. Completing the second half blitz with a goal in the 39th minute was Omar Hopkinson.

On the other side of the field, Dwayne Scott netted twice in the second and 11th minute. The event will resume today at the same venue with another doubleheader slated to commence from 17:00hrs.
