Team Evolution’s 1, 2, 3…repeat

Team Evolution (TE) is turning the local cycling circuit into a one-team show.

The club’s dominance continued yesterday at the National Park where their standout riders once again swept the podium in the feature 35-lap event of the Seven Seas 11-race programme.

Michael Anthony, in his crisp black and white club kit, led teammates Marlon ‘Fishy’ Williams and Orville Hinds across the line as they defied the odds to finish 1-3 for the fourth time for the season.

With the TE unit tuned to precision after a dedicated early season racing schedule, the trio was able to sweep the podium without any theatrics in the 13th annual Hassan Mohamed-organised fixture.

Chris Griffith finished fourth while Mark Harris and Raphael Leung finished fifth and sixth respectively.

But the show starred the men in black and white who continue to cement their club’s status as the premier one on the local cycling circuit with each race. Anthony’s eighth victory for the season which came in at a brisk one hour, 18 minutes and 15 seconds, was the 24th for his team in the 31 senior events staged so far.

The club’s dominance was underlined by the trio bagging all eight of the sprint prizes on offer in the race which they dominated from the sound of the pistol.

Hinds pocketed half of the sprint tokens, three went to Anthony and the other to Williams. The three riders separated from the peloton at the half-way mark and never relinquished their lead as they rode in tandem to hold off the chasers.

Other winners yesterday included: Ian Jackson (veteran’s under 50-five lap even), Andrew Spencer (veteran’s over-50), Britton John (Juveniles – 10 laps), Keon Thomas (Mountain Bikes), Jose Rodrigues (BMX 6-9 years), Sherwin Sampson (BMX 9-12 years) and Adelie Hodge (12-14 years).

The cycling season continues today at 08:00 hours when the TE wheelsmen and their rivals take their talents to the open roads of the West Demerara to compete for the spoils of the 12th annual Regan Rodrigues Memorial 50-mile event.
