KINGSTOWN, Jamaica, CMC – Leaders Windward Islands crushed ICC Americas by eight wickets here yesterday, to remain unbeaten in the one-day phase of the Regional Under-19 Championship.
Playing in the fourth round of the competition, the Windwards easily chased down 166 in the 31st over thanks to unbeaten half-centuries from Alick Athanaze and Emmanuel Stewart, who both scored 57.
They were 50 for two in the 13th over before Athanaze and Stewart came together in an unbroken third wicket stand of 118 to ensure victory without further loss.
Athanaze took the attack to the bowlers, smashing five fours and four sixes in a 44-ball knock while Stewart faced 80 balls and counted seven boundaries and a six.
ICC Americas had earlier opted to bat first and were restricted to 165 for five off their 50 overs, with Arslan Khan top-scoring with 86 off 133 balls with eight fours.
At Park Hill, Barbados also made light of an uncomplicated run chase to easily trounce Jamaica by six wickets.
Opener Shian Brathwaite stroked an unbeaten 41 not out as the Barbadians, set 122 for victory, reached their target in the 32nd over.
Stumbling slightly at 71 for four in the 19th over, Brathwaite combined with Dominic Drakes – who made 19 not out from 32 balls – in a 51-run, unbroken fifth wicket partnership to see Barbados home.
Left-arm spinner Jeavor Royal was the best bowler with two for 30.
Jamaica had been earlier undermined by left-arm spinner Joshua Bishop who claimed six for 36, and tumbled to 121 all out off 33.4 overs, after being sent in.
Michael Frew and Javelle Glenn both top-scored with 26, pulling Jamaica around from a position of 16 for three in the seventh over with a stand of exactly 50 for the fourth wicket.
In the other game at Stubbs Playing Field, opener Sherfane Rutherford missed out on a hundred as Guyana thrashed Trinidad and Tobago by 52 runs, after successfully defending 229 for six off their 50 overs.
Rutherford made 93 off 140 balls with three fours and four sixes and Raymon Perez hit a breezy 55 off 68 deliveries with three fours and four sixes.
Off-spinner Jonathan Bootan (2-34) and seamer Jarlanie Seales (2-37) both finished with two wickets apiece.
In reply, opener Joshua da Silva stoked an unbeaten 73 but T&T’s batting collapsed to 177 all out off 44 overs, as Kheshram Seyhodan (3-32) and Marlon Hubbard (3-33) picked up three wickets apiece.
Da Silva faced 108 deliveries and hit three fours and four sixes and was one of only three players in double figures but the only one to get past 13.
