Pacesetters to clash with Ravens in U23 final

Pacesetters and Ravens will contest the U23 final in the third stage of the Turbo Hard-Court Championships after defeating Plaisance Guardians and the University of Guyana (UG) Trojans respectively on Saturday.

Played at the Plaisance Community Centre Court, Pacesetters defeated the hosts 62-47 with Nathan Saul’s 27 points the top score.

Saul was supported by Jaleel Duke and Marvin Durant who scored 12 and 11 points respectively. For the losers, Terrence Daniels battled to 14 points while Malcolm Powdar netted nine points.

Aided by a boisterous viewership, the hosts secured the early advantage as they outscored Pacesetters 20-13 at the end of the first period.

However, the visitors commenced the comeback in the second quarter, reducing the deficit to four points (35-31) at the halftime interval as they out-hustled Guardians 18-15.

It went from bad to worse for the home side as they fell behind at the end of the third period as Pacesetters recorded 17 points to their paltry seven points to enter the final period ahead at 48-42.

The visitors completed the hard-fought comeback victory in a clinical manner, scoring 14 points while restricting the home side to a meagre five points.

Meanwhile, Ravens downed UG Trojans 43-35.

Leading 17-14 at the end of a low scoring first half, Ravens extended their lead during the third stanza as they outshot Guardians 13-10 to lead 30-24 going into fourth quarter.

Ravens then closed out contest as they out-hustled Ravens 13-11. The overall divisional winners of the event will be the teams that wins two out of the three stages.

Winner of the opening stage held at the Burnham Court were Ravens and Pacesetters in the Open and u23 sections respectively.

On the other hand, Colts and Ravens won stage two in the Open and u23 divisions correspondingly. Action in the event is slated to resume on September 4th.
