FIFA Doubles Financial support to GFF to US$500,000

The Guyana Football Federation (GFF) has received a financial boost in its attempt to develop the discipline as their annual subvention from the International Federation of Association Football (FIFA) has officially been doubled.

In an invited comment with Stabroek Sports, President of the Federation Wayne Forde confirmed yesterday that the world governing body has increased the subvention from its traditional US$250,000. “We normally use to receive US$250,000, now we will be getting US$500,000 annually towards the administration of football” he said.

According to Forde, all key positions within the secretariat inclusive of the head-coach and technical director will be paid using the financial increase, noting that the other US $750,000 expected to be received by the entity will be disbursed over the years and will be used towards developmental projects inclusive of infrastructure overhauls and paying off debts incurred.

Forde added that in order to acquire this funding, the GFF has to enter into a developmental contract with FIFA which is part of the new regulations and so that they can properly monitor the projects.

He noted that the GFF has already written to its member associations about the recent advances, declaring that several of the members have already identified and submitted the names of venues that need remedial work to improve their current state.

Asked if the additional funding has been received by the GFF, Forde replied, “The new funding has not been received but the necessary paperwork has been completed and submitted.” He further indicated that the funding should start to process over the course of several weeks.

The Financial Assistance Programme (FAP) was established by FIFA in 1999. It was designed to motivate and empower the Member associations and confederations to organize development programmes that met their needs and strengthen football and its administration in the long term, particularly in the areas of infrastructure, youth football and technical development.

Member associations and confederations that wish to benefit from the FAP must submit an application to FIFA.
