Fraser ton highlights GCB Franchise League

Kayron Fraser scored a century while several other batsmen fell in the nineties on the first day of the fifth round of the Guyana Cricket Board’s (GCB) Franchise League yesterday at various cricket grounds around the country.

At the Enterprise Community centre ground, Fraser, batting at number 10, made an unbeaten century to propel West Berbice to a formidable score of 407-nine at the close of play yesterday.

Fraser is unbeaten on 120 and Collis Butts, not out on 34 after West Berbice won the toss and elected to take first strike.

Also among the runs were Andrew Dutchin who made 71 and opener Avinash Sewkarran, who made an even half century.

Steven Jacobs and Arshad Ali are the chief wicket takers for East Bank with 3/99 and 2/39 respectively.

At the Albion Community Development Centre ground, Chandrapaul Hemraj was one of the players to be dismissed in the nineties.

He made 91 and Bhaskar Yadram 71 as East Coast Demerara were dismissed for 277

batting first against top of the table Lower Corentyne, who, in reply, were 70-1 with Jonathan Foo not out on 36 and Surujnarine Kandasammy unbeaten on 27.

Port Mourant skipper Rajiv Ivan was another player to perish in the nineties. He made 93 of his team’s total of 206-9 declared batting first against Essequibo.

Kevlon Anderson was the next highest scorer with 33 while Kevin Gordon 3-41 and Anthony Adams 3/46 were the wicket takers.

At the close of play Essequibo were 99-4 with Shivnarine Chanderpaul not out on 21 and Ricardo Adams not out on one. Ian Hooper was the pick of the bowlers with 2-24.

At the Lusignan Community Centre Ground, young Tagenarine Chanderpaul was six runs away from a century as West Demerara reached 164-2 at the close. Tagenarine Chanderpaul is 94 not out and Akshaya Persaud one run short of a half century.

Andre Stoll and Gajanand Suknanan have taken a wicket each. Earlier, Georgetown won the toss, batted and were dismissed for 170 with Andrew Lyght jnr., top scoring with 47 while Kellon Carmichael chipped in with 40.

Rishi Looknauth with 4-34 and Romario Shepherd with 3-56 were the wicket takers.
