Jaggesar ready to embrace next level

PORT OF SPAIN, Trinidad, CMC – Exciting off-spinner Jon Russ Jaggesar believes he is on the verge of playing international cricket.

The 30-year-old, who only made his first class debut for Trinidad and Tobago Red Force earlier this year, was recently called up for West Indies A’s tour of Sri Lanka and now says he is ready to take the next step.

“I am not that far off. The coaching staff has been preparing me well and with the right training and the right attitude I can get to the next level,” said Jaggesar, currently in camp with the Windies A squad in Barbados.

“I am right there competing with the rest of guys in the camp and I know if I can compete with them I can play with them.”

Jaggesar burst onto the scene during this year’s Regional Super50, capturing 14 wickets in six games at an average of 13, to help propel Red Force to the title.

He subsequently forced his way into the Red Force side for the latter half of the first class season, grabbing an impressive 23 wickets in five matches.

Jaggesar said he had used the camp to further hone his skills and prepare for his upcoming assignment.

“I have been trying to get the ball in the right areas, being consistent, building pressure and using some of my variations as well,” the right-armer said.

“I am trying to make if difficult for the batsmen to score and by doing so I have been successful thus far.”

Jaggesar is part of a 14-man one-day squad which will take on Sri Lanka A in three limited overs matches from October 24-30.

The series will be preceded by three four-day matches, starting October 4.
