Grove man dies in East Bank crash

A 27-year-old man died early yesterday morning after the car he was driving collided with a metal culvert before toppling several times and striking a utility pole at Land of Canaan on the East Bank Demerara (EBD).

Dead is Nizamudeen Muhammed called “Dwain”, who resided at Lot 616 Section ‘A’, Block ‘Y’, Golden Grove, EBD and was said to be an employee of the Cheddi Jagan International Airport.

The accident occurred around 1 am yesterday while Muhammed was reportedly returning home from work. He was picked up in an unconscious state and was pronounced dead on arrival at the Diamond Diagnostic Centre.

The Guyana Police Force in a press release said enquiries disclosed that Muhammed, who was the lone occupant of motor car, PRR 4768, was proceeding north along the western side of the public road at Land of Canaan, when he allegedly collided with a metal culvert.

He subsequently, “lost control, causing the vehicle to topple several times…,” the police said. As result, Muhammed was flung out of the badly mangled vehicle.

Efforts to contact relatives of Muhammed proved futile. Information revealed that prior to the accident, he had been living alone since both of his parents reside overseas.

His body is currently at the Lyken’s Funeral Parlour awaiting a post-mortem examination.
