Businessman shot, robbed while attempting to prevent robbery

 

A businessman is currently a patient in a city hospital after he was shot and robbed on Tuesday evening when he attempted to intervene into an armed robbery in front of his Kitty business.

Ulbourne Parker, 35, who was shot to his right thigh was taken to the Georgetown Public Hospital where he remains a patient in a stable condition.

A welder, who has been identified by the police as Junior Liverpool, 19, of West Ruimveldt, Georgetown, was robbed of two gold chains; he was not injured.

The police are reviewing closed circuit television (CCTV) footage retrieved from the crime scene and are currently pursuing three suspects.

According to a police press release, enquiries into the incident which occurred around 19:30 hrs on Tuesday disclosed that Liverpool was standing in front of Parker’s Garnett Street, Newtown, Kitty business place when three men on bicycles pounced on him and relieved him of the two gold chains he was wearing.

“Parker went to his assistance, when one of the suspects snatched Parker gold chain and shot him to his thigh,” the police said.

The suspects fled the scene on two bicycles.

Efforts to contact the victims proved futile.
