Two held after CANU uncover drugs in Waterloo St raid

A man and a woman were arrested yesterday by the Customs Anti-Narcotics Unit (CANU), which unearthed an undisclosed amount of narcotics, suspected to be cocaine, at an abandoned property at Waterloo Street, Georgetown.

The raid, which lasted for approximately four hours, was carried out on Waterloo Street, in the alley next to the White Castle Snackette.

CANU ranks and the man they arrested examine the packages that were found buried.

Stabroek News was told that ranks from CANU swooped down on the location after receiving information.

According to neighbours, the man was arrested after a bus with ranks from CANU approached him and questioned him. He was sitting on a bench in the avenue along Waterloo Street.

During the raid, searches were conducted at a house along the alley. Investigations later led the ranks to an abandoned building where the packages containing the illegal substance were found buried in sand. The packages were found in the presence of the man.
