Stabroek News was told that the woman said she and the man had a heated argument on Tuesday, after which she took her children to her mother, who is presently residing at the Amerindian Hostel in New Amsterdam.

The man subsequently visited the children and provided them with a soft drink. The children’s grandmother raised an alarm after she noticed that a short while after they consumed the drink, they were frothing from the mouth.

The children were then rushed to the New Amsterdam Public Hospital, where they were treated for poisoning. They were admitted and are said to be in a stable condition.

Stabroek News was told that Rambarran, who hails from New Amsterdam reportedly, suffers from a mental illness but up to yesterday police had not taken him for a psychiatric evaluation.
